Art exhibitions in Wuxi pay tribute to renowned native painter

The Wuxi Museum in Jiangsu province kicked off a series of activities on June 28 to mark the 40th anniversary of the donation of Zhou Huaimin (1906-1996) to the museum.

Zhou has been donating his collection of calligraphy works and paintings and his own works to the Wuxi Museum since 1984. Before his death, Zhou donated 226 artworks.

The museum curated three exhibitions to display donations by Zhou, including ancient artworks, his own creations, and the outstanding works of members of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang honoring Zhou.

The three exhibitions will run until Aug 30.

Zhou is a renowned painter and collector of calligraphy works and paintings. His earlier works follow the techniques of traditional Chinese paintings and later, he created landscape paintings characterized by the prominence of blue and green colors.

Zhou was well-respected within Chinese painting circles for grape-themed works featuring thick branches, big leaves, heavy colors, and color overlaying.
