Post-rain splendor of Dunhuang desert

After a summer rain in Dunhuang, Northwest China's Gansu province, the Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Spring Scenic Area had become picture-perfect.

In mid-June, the desert known as an international cultural and tourist city along the Silk Road, drew tens of thousands of tourists. They visited for sightseeing and exploration with its profound Dunhuang cultural heritage and unique landscapes.

Beneath Mingsha Mountain, the sound of camel bells rings continuously, while Crescent Spring's surroundings are bustling with visitors, leading to a peak in Dunhuang tourism.

According to the Dunhuang municipal tourism department, on 16 June, the Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Spring Scenic Area received 21,800 visitors from both domestic and foreign regions, marking a year-on-year increase of 36.93 percent.

As of June 20 this year, the Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Spring Scenic Area has received over 1 million visitors, 16 days earlier than in 2023. The total number of tourists received has increased by 270,000 year-on-year, a rise of 38 percent.
