China Conservatory of Music launches festival to celebrate 60th anniversary

On June 20, the China Conservatory of Music in Beijing announced the inauguration of a Traditional Music Festival, set to commence on Dec 4. The festival will witness the convergence of musicians from esteemed institutions including the China National Opera & Dance Drama Theater, China National Opera House, China National Traditional Orchestra, and China Ethnic Song & Dance Ensemble.

Comprising four distinct sessions, the festival will feature live performances and engaging forums delving into the rich history and evolution of traditional Chinese music, welcoming audiences, particularly students from art schools, to partake in the cultural celebration.

Leading up to the main event, a series of warm-up shows will be held from July to November, showcasing a diverse array of traditional Chinese musical instruments. Li Xincao, the accomplished conductor and president of the China Conservatory of Music, highlighted that the festival serves as a pivotal component of the school's 60th anniversary festivities.

Esteemed veteran musicians have been appointed as guest professors at the China Conservatory of Music, including renowned pipa player Zhao Cong, who also serves as the president of the China National Traditional Orchestra, and violinist Liu Yunzhi, who holds the presidency at the China National Opera House.
