From January to May, North China's Shanxi province saw its industrial production, investment and consumption increase, while employment and prices remained stable, according to the economic data released by the Shanxi Provincial Bureau of Statistics on June 21.
During the Jan-May period, the added value of the consumer goods industry increased by 5.9 percent; the added value of the equipment manufacturing industry increased by 5.5 percent; the high-tech manufacturing industry grew by 16.3 percent; and the electronic and communication equipment manufacturing industry grew by 23.3 percent.
Meanwhile, investment in equipment manufacturing industry in the province increased by 42.8 percent; investment in high-tech industries increased by 19.0 percent; investment in high-tech manufacturing increased by 42.7 percent; and investment in new energy power generation increased by 30.4 percent.
In addition, 39.25 million people visited key monitored scenic spots in the province, an increase of 17.8 percent; ticket revenue was 1.1 billion yuan ($151.48 million), an increase of 17.3 percent; while the operating income was 1.74 billion yuan, an increase of 17.7 percent.
Furthermore, the total import and export volume of the province was 73.82 billion yuan, an increase of 22.7 percent. Specifically, exports reached 46.06 billion yuan, an increase of 26.3 percent, while imports reached 27.77 billion yuan, an increase of 17.1 percent.
At the same time, the province created 205,000 new jobs in urban areas, accounting for 45.5 percent of the annual target.
