Recently, at the Yulong Gobi honeydew melon base in Huahai, a town in the city of Yumen, Gansu province, farmers have been busy harvesting honeydew melons.
This year, the base planted over 466.7 hectares of honeydew melons, and the harvest, which began in early May, will continue until November. These melons are renowned for their high quality and taste and are popular with consumers nationwide.
As the melons mature and orders increase, the demand for packaging has risen accordingly.
"We can produce 300,000 non-woven fabric bags and 400,000 paper bags per day,” said Shang Zhipeng, deputy general manager of Yumen Zhongying Packaging Co. He added that three net cover production lines are also being fine-tuned and will soon be operational.
Yumen Zhongying Packaging Co is a new packaging production business in the city. It is expected to achieve an annual output value of 20 million yuan ($2.75 million) and provide employment for about 50 people.
Yumen, which is transitioning from a single industry to a diversified structure, has made significant efforts to extend the agricultural industrial chain by boosting investment, improving resource guarantees and enhancing policy support.
Over 30 leading agricultural enterprises have been established in the county, injecting new vitality into local rural development.
