A dozen teams from East China's Jiangsu province participated in dragon boat open races held in Xinghua city in the region on June 9-10, in a show of rowing prowess and energy that thrilled spectators.
The competition consisted of the 200-meter straight race, held on June 9 and the 500-meter straight race, held on June 10 – both featuring teams of 22 people. The final rankings were determined by adding up the scores of the two races.
Xinghua has held boat races every year during the Dragon Boat Festival since 2008, in a revered event that reflects the passion of Xinghua's people for life, as well as the commitment to pass on the know-how through the generations.
After a particularly hard-fought final, the Linggui dragon boat team, the Jiangsu Ocean University dragon boat team and the Shuirun Xinghua dragon boat team secured first, second and third places.
On June 10, exciting events were also staged between race breaks, including thrilling motorboat and power board displays.
