The 2024 Guilin main event for World Environment Day, themed "Advancing the construction of beautiful China comprehensively," took place on June 5.
At the event, environmental volunteers read out a declaration, innovative ecological projects were showcased, and four interactive exhibition areas on environmental protection themes were set up, showcasing Guilin's ecological conservation achievements.
In 2023, Guilin ranked first in the region for improvements in ozone levels and second for the improvement in the proportion of excellent air quality days, achieving a historical record. The water quality of the mainstream of the Lijiang River remained at Class II or above, ranking among the top in the country for surface water quality.
Guilin was honored with the "China Human Settlements Award." In April of this year, the glossy ibis, a nationally protected animal previously declared extinct in China, was spotted for the first time at the Huxian Wetland in Guilin, providing strong evidence of the continuous improvement in Guilin's ecological environment.
