Jinan: Ideal place for young talent

Jinan, capital of Shandong province, strives to create a fairer and more just environment, providing young people with opportunities to constantly grow and achieve their goals.

For the past two years, Jinan has seen an increase of over 100,000 young talents annually. By the end of 2023, the total talent pool exceeded 2.78 million. In March, the Human Resources and Social Security Department of Shandong Province released the 2023 Most Attractive List for College Graduate Employment in Shandong Province, with six districts and counties (functional areas) and 61 enterprises from Jinan making the list, ranking first in the province.

Jinan is home to 13 institutions affiliated with the Chinese Academy of Sciences, focusing on key areas such as electromagnetic lasers, aerospace information, medical imaging, gene editing and brain-machine interfaces. They have collectively achieved breakthroughs in over 30 critical technologies and more than 160 core technologies and introduced and incubated over 130 industrialization projects.

In 2023, the scale of Jinan's big data and next-generation information technology industry exceeded 650 billion yuan ($89.68 billion), housing the country's largest server production base. The scale of the intelligent manufacturing and high-end equipment industry reached 500 billion yuan, with the nation's largest heavy-duty truck production base. The biopharmaceutical and health industry reached a value of 220 billion yuan, boasting the world's largest hyaluronic acid production base and the largest data center in the domestic medical field.

In the recently announced 40 Policies to Support College Graduate Employment and Entrepreneurship in Jinan (2024 Edition), Jinan provides maximum support for young people in their pursuit of dreams across six major areas: job stability and expansion, grassroots employment, entrepreneurial support, talent attraction, skill improvement and employment services. For instance, enterprises and institutions are incentivized to establish at least 10,000 internship positions.
