Quzhou makes strides in improving welfare of individuals with disabilities

Quzhou in Zhejiang province has made significant strides in enhancing the welfare of individuals with disabilities, focusing on promoting self-reliance and empowerment.

At the disability care center in Kecheng district's Fushan subdistrict, individuals like a girl surnamed Gao are actively involved in processing materials, creating cultural and creative products, and even baking.

Gao, appreciative of the support and guidance she receives, now participates in group activities, shares meals with others, engages in handicrafts, and finds fulfillment through her work.

Xu Hui, a dedicated representative of the care center, highlighted the commitment of the staff to not only meet daily needs and offer psychological support but also to empower individuals with disabilities to secure employment and achieve financial independence.

Xu added that out of the 36 individuals at the center, an impressive 33 have successfully obtained employment, each earning a monthly income exceeding 2,000 yuan ($276.04).

The facility provides a diverse range of functional areas, including cultural and sports activity rooms, skills training zones, relaxation spaces, calligraphy and painting studios, medical facilities, psychological counseling rooms, rehabilitation training areas, and a nutrition-focused restaurant tailored to the needs of the disabled community.

As of the end of May, Quzhou had established 128 such facilities, extending services and support to 2,852 individuals with disabilities.

Through these initiatives, Quzhou continues to demonstrate its commitment to fostering inclusivity, independence, and a thriving community for individuals with disabilities.
