Recently, a golden birdwing butterfly emerging from its chrysalis was captured in China’s Honghe Butterfly Valley in Ma’andi township, Jinping county, Yunnan province. The golden birdwing butterfly, a large species from the Troides genus of the Papilionidae family, is classified as a national second-level protected animal in China. It is considered the largest butterfly species in China and is often referred to as the "most beautiful butterfly". The wingspan of the female golden birdwing butterfly ranges from 12 to 15 centimeters, while the wingspan of the male ranges from 10 to 13 centimeters. The golden birdwing butterflies are also “longevity champions”, living for more than one month. [Video by The Convergence Media Center of Jinping County]
