To further spread its unique cultural and natural resources, Youyang county in Southwest China's Chongqing is making efforts to attract overseas visitors from Southeast Asia.
Youyang is famous for its numerous ancient towns, rich natural scenery and unique culture of ethnic minorities, especially the Tujia and Miao groups. In May, the local tourism department initiated promotional events, rolling out a series of activities and a special tour route, targeted at visitors from Southeast Asian countries.
The first group of visitors, which consisted of 62 people from Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore, arrived in the county on Thursday. They visited some local tourist sites, such as Taohuayuan scenic area and Gongtan ancient town, and experienced local non-intangible cultures.
"This trip to Youyang is a trip that is soothing our hearts, and we really enjoy its unique natural beauties," said Lee Phay Tuan, a visitor from Indonesia. He added that he will introduce Youyang as a tourist destination to his family and friends.
Zuo Wenqing, from the local cultural and tourism department, said they will strengthen cooperation with other friendly international cities, continuously improve tourism routes, and speed up promotions and cultural and tourism integration.
