Chongqing held a forum on urban green development on Wednesday on Guangyang Island to explore how to enhance international cooperation to address climate change and achieve a path of green development for cities.
The forum was part of the Chongqing International Friendship Cities Cooperation Conference 2024, which has attracted mayors and representatives from 48 cities in 31 countries, foreign diplomats from 14 countries and delegates from international organizations, multinational corporations and business associations.
Local leaders from many major cities around the world shared their experience in sustainable development — including Annaba province of Algeria; Seville, Spain; North Dhaka, Bangladesh; Machu Picchu, Peru; San Salvador, El Salvador; and Seattle, Washington, in the United States.
Wednesday was International Biodiversity Day. The representatives at the forum agreed to issue the "International Friendship Cities Cooperation Initiative for Biodiversity Conservation", which calls for strengthened international cooperation in biodiversity conservation and making a positive contribution to global biodiversity governance.
