Nianbadu Ancient Town in Jiangshan, a county-level city in Quzhou, Zhejiang province, has launched a program to conserve its traditional culture.
The town has implemented a series of proactive measures, including inviting a bamboo weaving craftsman to teach local residents with disabilities the weaving technique.
As a result, bamboo handicrafts have become popular souvenirs among visitors, bringing new growth opportunities to local tourism and helping increase incomes for the disadvantaged group, noted a local official.
Authorities have also set up a historical culture research association to explore the town's unique cultural heritage, aiming to provide more cultural offerings and advance the in-depth integration of culture and tourism.
In addition, the local government has also organized a series of events, including folk performances and study tours, to promote its traditional culture.
The town currently houses businesses engaged in traditional techniques such as paper-cutting, puppet drama, and bean curd making.
