A total of 18 new Class-C parking bays standing just south of the international corridor of Sanya Phoenix International Airport began operation on May 16.

These new bays are expected to increase the airport's handling capacity during peak hours from 22 to 24 flights per hour, addressing resource shortages and meeting the demands of the aviation market.

The expansion project, initiated on June 6, 2023, was completed on Feb 7, 2024 and involved converting the original 11 Class-C stands and two Class-D stands at the airport's No 5 apron into 18 Class-C stands.

Improvements were made to infrastructures including drainage systems, navigational lighting, power supply, signage, fire protection, the 400Hz power supply, aircraft ground air conditioning and lifting shafts.
