Development zone: Bridging industries with sustainability

The Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone boasts 72 kilometers of Yangtze River banks, 18 protected mountains, 15 rivers, 26 protected lakes and 16 small water bodies.

In 2023, WEDZ built 229 hectares of green spaces and 15 km of green trails, while also planting 300,000 trees. Its greening rate now reaches 41.26 percent, and has park spaces totaling 9.8 million square meters, with the per capita park space standing at 17.5 sq m.

The government has also created 30 hectares of flower fields in places including Longling Mountain, Chuanjiang Pond and Tanshan Island, and five green stations. Additionally, it has lined its major avenues with flowers.

By allocating local forestry resources and integrating elements such as city parks, themed parks, smart agriculture, health maintenance, and wetland restoration, WEDZ has formed a brand-new forestry economic model. This new model expedites the development of forest tourism, rural homestays, and agriculture, thus achieving benefits among the government, enterprises and residents.

The zone has also implemented the Houguan Lake comprehensive governance project, bringing in wedding-centered businesses, bars, camping spaces, ecological farms, farmland sightseeing routes and other tourism elements.
