In a move to enhance intellectual property (IP) protection and cultivate a healthy business environment, the Shanghai Hongqiao International Central Business District Management Committee and the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration recently signed a strategic cooperation agreement and unveiled an overseas IP rights protection assistance base in Hongqiao.
The event, held on May 13, marks a significant step forward in boosting overseas IP protection for enterprises in the district and improving the regional IP business environment. The assistance base will seek to create a world-class business environment in which enterprises can grow and thrive.
At the inauguration ceremony for the base, Rui Wenbiao, director of the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration, highlighted the district's role as a vital hub for connectivity in the Yangtze River Delta and a gateway for global companies entering China. Leveraging international chambers of commerce, industry associations, Shanghai universities, and foreign service institutions, the focus of their partnership will be on providing proactive and professional support in areas like overseas IP deployment, risk management, dispute resolution, and talent development.
Zhong Xiaoyong, executive deputy director of the Hongqiao International CBD, emphasized the committee's commitment to strengthening IP protection in the district and supporting innovation and entrepreneurship. The base is expected to attract advanced IP service platforms and enhance services for businesses in the district and the wider Yangtze River Delta region, providing tailored support for addressing IP-related challenges and helping enterprises to expand abroad.
Both parties pledged to deepen their collaboration, enhance professional IP services for the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta, and strengthen support for the China International Import Expo (CIIE).
The district has set up a trademark acceptance window at the Hongqiao Overseas Development Service Center, offering consultation for international trademark registration, and has established an Intellectual Property Rights Assistance Station and an RCEP Enterprise Service Consultation Station. East Hongqiao is now a Shanghai IP Demonstration Zone, while West Hongqiao houses the IP protection center for the CIIE.
