Wu Xinming, Party secretary of Nantong in Jiangsu province, met with Kim Young-jun, consul general of the Republic of Korea in Shanghai, on May 15 to discuss further exchanges.
Wu, on behalf of local authorities, extended a warm welcome to Kim and thanked South Korea's consulate general in Shanghai for its support.
After giving a briefing on Nantong's economic and social development, Wu noted that Nantong and South Korea boast a long history of people-to-people exchanges and close economic and trade relations.
Nantong has also forged sister-city relations with Gimje City, Changwon, South Korea, and Qidong, a county-level city under its jurisdiction, has established such relations with Geoje City, South Korea, he added.
Wu said that Nantong has emerged as a hotspot for foreign investors as it has actively integrated into Shanghai, offering numerous development opportunities.
He also expressed hope that the consulate general of South Korea in Shanghai will introduce Nantong to more people and promote exchanges and cooperation between South Korea and Nantong in scientific innovation, industrial development, and education.
Nantong will, in turn, create a top-notch market and law-based business environment for foreign-invested enterprises and expats.
Kim thanked Nantong for its support of South Korean businesses and people before revealing his hope for more economic, trade, and people-to-people exchanges.
