In Shulan, Jilin province, the fertile land is buzzing with activity as farmers begin preparations for the onset of rice transplanting work. Fields in Ping'an town are alive with the busy sight of locals transplanting rice, painting a picture of diligent spring farming.
Inside the seedling greenhouse of the Xueming Family Farm in Ping'an town, workers are busy with the orderly process of preparing and transporting seedlings. In the rice fields, multiple rice transplanting machines shuttle back and forth, neatly planting seedlings into the fields, turning the paddy fields a lush green hue.
"We started transplanting rice on May 5, using mechanical methods entirely. We can transplant up to 15 hectares per day, and we expect to finish transplanting work in about four days," said Li Xueming, the farm's manager.
This year, the farm started seedling preparation as early as March 27, planting in the greenhouse. Their planting schedule is ahead by about 10 days compared to neighboring farms, with plans to cultivate 60 hectares of paddy fields, including 43 hectares of high-quality organic rice. Before transplanting, the farm extensively plowed the land and enhanced the soil quality with organic fertilizers and microbial agents, ensuring increased yields.
Currently, Ping'an town is fully engaged in spring farming activities, tailoring plans according to local conditions. Shulan city is estimated to have a rice cultivation area of 750,000 mu (about 50,000 hectares) this year, and its rice seedlings growing so far. The city is set to conclude its transplanting process by mid-June.
