Xi'an sees booms in tourism during May Day holiday

The just-concluded May Day holiday boosted tourism in Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province.

During the holiday, Xi'an received 14.02 million visits across all of its attractions, marking a year-on-year increase of 5.38 percent, with visitor spending reaching a total of 11.47 billion yuan ($1.59 billion), indicating a 6.72-percent increase compared to the previous year.

Museums across the city saw a spike in visitors, with cultural and relic units across the city receiving approximately 1.55 million visits over the five-day holiday period. Notably, the Emperor Qinshihuang's Mausoleum Site Museum saw a 5.52-percent year-on-year increase in visits, while the Shaanxi History Museum experienced a 4.11-percent increase.

Additionally, Xi'an's performing arts brand effect became evident with a total of 21 tourism performances staging 823 shows during this period, resulting in a 20-percent year-on-year increase in ticket revenue.

In addition, areas like the Grand Tang Mall and the Bell and Drum towers area became popular spots for visitors to experience wearing hanfu during the holiday.
