Dianbai district, Maoming city, located in the south of Guangdong province, is known for its abundant living resources. Agarwood, as a unique tree species, has formed an industrial chain worth 5 billion yuan ($0.69 billion) annually.
The industrial ecology in Dianbai is vast and has ideal conditions. There are over 6,500 agarwood tree processing and sales enterprises in the region, covering the entire industrial chain from gathering materials and processing to marketing and promoting.
With a planting area of nearly 130,000 mu (8,666 hectares) and an annual production of over 30 million agarwood trees, Dianbai has become the largest agarwood trees planting base in China, constituting 80 percent of the nation's market.
Agarwood retail trade is already an important force in promoting the economic development of Dianbai, as there is an ascending domestic demand for agarwood products. Dianbai further broadens the sales channels not only physical stores but also e-commerce platforms.
According to the statistics, the agarwood industry employs more than 60,000 individuals, accounting for 70 percent of the domestic staff. The industry promotes economic development and provides numerous employment opportunities for residents.
