Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, recently released the white paper on the development and protection of intellectual property (IP) rights in 2023, providing a comprehensive overview of the city's IP work over the past year.
The white paper showcases the city's efforts to boost innovation-driven development and accelerate the establishment of a strong IP city through detailed data and specific examples.
In 2023, Xi'an saw a total of 51,145 authorized patents granted, with 35,893 high-value patents, and had an invention patent ownership rate of 71.53 per 10,000 people.
It also witnessed 51,022 trademark registrations and 31,943 registered copyright works. Last year, Xi'an received 19 awards at the 24th China Patent Awards, and added 78 national IP advantage demonstration enterprises and 90 provincial ones.
The Global Innovation Index 2023 report released by the World Intellectual Property Organization ranked Xi'an 19th globally and 7th among China's listed clusters.
Throughout the year, Xi'an promoted the IP application and transformation, hosting the Xi'an High-Value Patent Cultivation Competition and organizing over 20 patent transfer and transformation matchmaking activities.
More than 20 universities in the city opened up licenses for 1,098 patents, with over 6,000 patent achievements released.
Also, relevant departments in the city have strengthened protection efforts, facilitating the rapid resolution of IP disputes. The city's IP business environment index ranked first in the province in 2023.
