Chengdu hosts BWF Thomas and Uber Cup Finals 2024

The BWF Thomas and Uber Cup Finals 2024 kicked off on the evening of Friday in Chengdu, the capital of Southwest China's Sichuan province.

Held every two years, the Thomas and Uber Cup is one of the most important team tournaments in the world of badminton. The Thomas Cup is the world men's team badminton championship, while the Uber Cup is the world women's team badminton championship.

Thirty-two teams from 20 countries and regions are participating in this year's event.

The organizer said the Chengdu event is the first of its kind in western China, and it is also the highest-level badminton tournament before the Paris Olympics.

According to the schedule, the group stage will be held from Apr 27 to May 1, the quarterfinals on May 2 to 3, the semifinals on May 4, and the final champions will be determined on May 5.

The Chinese team has won the Thomas Cup 10 times, making it the team with the second-highest number of victories in the championship, and it has won the Uber Cup 15 times, making it the most successful team.

The event will be held at the Chengdu High-Tech Zone Sports Center. With a total construction area of 200,000 square meters, it mainly consists of a multi-functional gymnasium with more than 12,000 seats, a national fitness center and a service center.
