The dance drama Song of Everlasting Sorrow, staged at the Huaqing Palace in Xi'an, was recently selected as one of the top 10 boutique performances in the country by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
Launched in 2006 by Shaanxi Tourism Group, the Song of Everlasting Sorrow is China's first large-scale realistic historical dance drama, acclaimed as a model of China's tourism and cultural creative industry.
Based on the love story of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty (618-907) and his concubine Yang Yuhuan, the dance drama vividly portrays the poignant chapters from the long poem Song of Everlasting Sorrow by Bai Juyi at the site of the story's occurrence, integrating history and reality, nature and culture, the human world and the celestial realm, tradition and fashion.
To date, the dance drama has delivered over 5,000 high-quality performances, generating a cumulative revenue exceeding 2 billion yuan ($276.17 million).
On Dec 3, 2021, the Ice • Fire Song of Everlasting Sorrow premiered, driving the night economy and expanding the scale of the winter tourism market in Xi'an.
Moving forward, the dance drama team will embrace a new direction for integrated development in the cultural and tourism industry. It will adapt to the changing times, and strive to create a brand of the highest quality.
