Jiuquan city in Gansu province boasts a wetland area of 7.2123 million mu (480, 820 hectares), home to two internationally important wetlands as well as two national and three provincial-level wetland parks. With seven natural reserves for wetland types, the city has achieved a wetland protection rate of over 60%.
The wetlands host a stable population of wild plants and an increasing number of wild animals. Each year, over 30 species of waterbirds in their hundreds of thousands migrate here for winter. [Video by Jin Jing]
