Tongzhou district in Nantong, Jiangsu province has underscored the crucial role of innovative talent in propelling industrial growth.
At the end of last year, the district launched its talent new policy 3.0, focusing on expanding services tailored to the developmental needs of talent. Concurrently, Tongzhou identified 10 key industrial chains and established talent hubs within leading enterprises along these chains.
The district has also hosted numerous events to attract talent. For instance, an event for overseas doctoral talent held from March 26-27 saw over 30 experts and scholars from the United Kingdom, including academicians from the Royal Academy of Engineering such as Gu Sai and Dong Hongbiao, as well as representatives from the UK's Outstanding Young Scholars Society. They gathered in Tongzhou to explore avenues for technological talent collaboration.
Beyond talent attraction, Tongzhou has also prioritized the introduction of related talent projects. AlphaESS Energy's global headquarters, located in the Nantong National High-Tech Industrial Development Zone, is one of the talent projects introduced to the region in 2012. Currently, AlphaESS Energy is a leading provider of energy storage systems and energy management services, with over 30 subsidiaries worldwide and business operations spanning across more than 90 countries and regions.
To date, Tongzhou has supported 372 high-level talent innovation and entrepreneurship projects at the district level, with a total funding amounting to nearly 400 million yuan ($55.27 million). Among these, 72 start-ups have achieved mass production, 42 have grown into high-tech enterprises, eight have become specialized enterprises at the provincial-level or above, and five are seeking to go public.
