Xi'an becomes fertile ground for future-oriented industries

In the race to create future-oriented industries, Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, has great potential.

Future-oriented industries also play a vital role in propelling the development of new quality productive forces.

Xi'an is the fourth city in the country to be approved for the construction of a national science center and a national science and technology innovation center, boasting over 1 million scientific researchers. Its innovation capabilities secured the 8th position in the 2023 national ranking of innovative cities.

The city has already formed five 100-trillion-yuan industrial clusters. The numbers of national high-tech enterprises and technology-based small and medium-sized enterprises in the city have reached 12,500 and 15,000, respectively.

Ten measures for the industrialization of key & core technology were recently rolled out, promoting a cycle of development that integrates technology, finance, and industry.

The city's 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) explicitly aims to develop several future-oriented industries, such as quantum information, neuromorphic intelligence, and life and health sectors. In the city's key tasks for 2024, emphasis has been placed on breakthroughs in future-oriented industries, boldly laying out plans for future development.

In the materials field, Xi'an's photonics industrial cluster has taken shape, encompassing photonics manufacturing, photonics information, photonics sensing, and the incubation of a number of leading domestic photonics enterprises that have strong advantages in specific core technologies.

While in the space field, the Aerospace Future Industry Science and Technology Park has been designated by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Education as one of 10 national pilot projects. Once operational, it will incubate a number of high-growth technology-based enterprises.

Xi'an will actively build application scenarios to develop more cutting-edge products, thus accumulating new momentum for the development of future-oriented industries.

By pioneering industrial and urban futures through these future-oriented industries, Xi'an is set to become an innovative land in which new quality productive forces can rapidly take root and grow.
