In Tanggu village in Wenshan, Yunnan province, on the first day of the second lunar month, women of the Zhuang ethnic group who are 16 and older will wear traditional clothing, bathe in the village's "purification pool", and walk through twelve turns to "find the sun". They will then gather under the ancient banyan tree at the end of the village to offer a red rooster and golden sticky rice to the sun, before sending it up the mountain with a chorus of an ancient sun-worship song.
This is the Women's Festival of the Sun, which originated from an ancient local myth. It not only reflects the bravery and perseverance of the Zhuang people, but also their reverence for nature and longing for a better life.
