Yantai in Shandong province saw a consumption boom during the three-day Qingming holiday, which started on April 4 and ended on April 6.
During the Qingming holiday, numerous commercial streets and shopping centers in Yantai were bustling with people. According to official statistics, the city's key monitored commercial enterprises generated 180 million yuan ($24.9 million) in total retail sales during the holiday.
The Qingming holiday is the peak season for eating Qingtuan, or green rice balls, and major shopping malls and pastry shops throughout the city have launched special Qingtuan.
With a wide range of promotional activities, consumption in the city has continued to recover and grow. According to the Yantai Municipal Bureau of Commerce, the city's catering industry remained strong over the Qingming holiday. Twenty sample catering enterprises achieved a turnover of 2.28 million yuan during the holiday period, a year-on-year increase of 19 percent.
The city has also launched a spring consumer season, organizing themed consumer activities around shopping, dining, and automobiles, and organizing more than 40 promotional events for commercial circulation enterprises to enrich the supply of goods and services.
