WND company inks landmark deal with US battery manufacturer

Wuxi Lead Intelligent Equipment Co Ltd, based in Wuxi National Hi-Tech District, or Wuxi New District, signed a strategic partnership agreement with American Battery Factory (ABF), a prominent battery manufacturer from the United States, on March 18.

Under this agreement, Lead will provide fully-automatic lithium battery production lines with an output of 20 gigawatt-hours (GWh) to ABF. This marks the largest lithium battery equipment order secured by a Chinese company in the US to date.

ABF specializes in the production of lithium iron phosphate batteries. The first phase of its gigafactory in Tucson, Arizona is expected to be operational by 2025. Lead stands as the sole equipment supplier for the first production line in ABF's planned network of battery cell gigafactories.

Wang Yanqing, chairman of Lead, emphasized the strategic significance of this collaboration with ABF, marking a pivotal move in the company's expansion into the US and North American markets.

Lead, established in 1999, has grown to become the world's largest manufacturer of new energy equipment. As of 2022, the company had commanded a 24.1-percent share of the Chinese market and a 7.5-percent share of the global market, based on order value. The company has delivered over 120 complete production lines to global clients, including renowned brands like Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Tesla, and Sony.

Lead has established 15 subsidiary companies and over 50 service outlets across Europe, the US, Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asia, and more. "Our objective is for overseas business to account for more than half of Lead's total revenue," said Wang.
