In recent years, Guiyang has been practicing green and low-carbon development.
The city has taken advantage of various days such as World Earth Day, World Water Day, World Environment Day, Water Saving Week, and Guizhou Ecology Day to hold a variety of promotional activities advocating for green and low-carbon lifestyles.
Guiyang's ecology and environment departments have collaborated with the city's education institutions to conduct open classes, scientific experiments, and outdoor practices on low-carbon topics in primary and secondary schools, aiming to promote green development concepts among students and encourage them to engage in environmental protection.
Volunteers distributed pamphlets in communities and organized fun mini-games to teach residents about low-carbon practices and waste classification.
During the "13th Five-Year Plan" period (2016-20), Guiyang achieved a harmless treatment rate of over 99 percent for urban household waste, with new energy and clean energy buses now accounting for over 98 percent of the city's public transportation.
During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period (2021-25), Guiyang plans to promote the classification of household waste and the recycling of waste materials, aiming to increase the level of reduction, resource utilization, and harmless treatment of household waste.
By 2023, the city achieved full coverage of waste classification facilities and full compliance among waste collection facilities, and also completed the construction of the Huaxi Comprehensive Household Waste Treatment Plant (Phase II).
