In recent years, Xing'an county in Guilin has been promoting rice-cole rotation, a farming code that contributes to increasing income and boosting local tourism.
Xing'an makes comprehensive plans for annual cereal and oil production to enhance the oilseed production capacity and adopts a combination of good seeds, good methods, and suitable machines. Besides, it introduces several oilseed rape varieties with medium-early maturity, high yield, and high oil.
Villages and towns in Xing'an are encouraged to practice rice-cole rotation during the slack winter season. As a result, this farming mode has been improving the sustainability of local oilseed production and diversifying the county's agricultural economy.
By far, the oilseeds have entered their blooming stage. The average yield per mu of the county's oilseeds is expected to reach over 110 kilograms in 2024, with the total output up to 1.1 million kg. The value of oilseed production will achieve more than 6 million yuan ($833,000).
At the same time, the blooming cole fields become a scenic attraction, drawing a host of tourists to the county and promoting the local tourism industry.
