Chahua Festival is a distinctive traditional festival of the Yi people, and is especially grand in Dayao county of Chuxiong prefecture, Yunnan province. It has been honored with such titles as "the Most Distinctive Ethnic Festival", “the Most Distinctive Tourism Festival” and “One of the World's 100 Traditional Minority Festivals”. Every year on the eighth day of the second lunar month, local Yi people adorn their doorways, agricultural tools, as well as on each other's hair and clothing with horse-tail flowers (Rhododendron delavayi Franch) they pick from the mountains. People dress in festive attire and gather in the mountains to worship flower gods, pray, sing, and dance.
