The Mengxihe site in Ziyang, Sichuan province, located in the upper and middle reaches of the Mengxi River, dates back 70,000 to 50,000 years. It stands as a rare Paleolithic Age site where an abundance of stone artifacts, along with animal and plant remains, have been unearthed.
Over 100,000 relics, including stone tools and animal fossils, have been excavated, alongside more than 60,000 pieces of plant remains. It is the only site in China known for its abundant discovery of plant remains from the stage of modern human origins and dispersal. The site has remarkably documented a vivid Paleolithic society scene.
