More than 2,000 people in Xifuji town of Daming county, Handan, North China's Hebei province, are employed to make straw-plaited products that sell in domestic and foreign markets.
Xifuji has a history of about 300 years in making straw-woven objects and is known as the hometown of straw weaving.
The "Daming straw weaving" technique was included in the second batch of the national intangible cultural heritage list in 2008.
Currently, Xifuji boasts more than 30 straw weaving enterprises. Its straw weaving industry covers 20 villages in the township.
According to the county's government, Xifuji's annual production includes 30 million placemats and 20 million straw hats and bags. Their yearly output value exceeded 100 million yuan ($14 million).
The products are exported to the United States, European countries, Japan, South Korea and other places, it added.
