The following image is a Spring Festival couplet written by Fu Tianxiang. Crafted in the clerical script, known as “Lishu (隶书)” in Chinese. The first line, traditionally placed on the right side and known as top scroll in Chinese, means “Joyful songs echo in a myriad of households”; the second line, known as bottom scroll in Chinese, reads “Festive cheer radiates from all corners”. The horizontal scroll can be interpreted as “Welcoming the New Spring”. Altogether, this couplet encapsulates the collective merriment and anticipation of the Chinese people for the upcoming year.
