In recent years, Hohhot in Inner Mongolia autonomous region has achieved remarkable economic growth, with major economic indicators reaching the highest levels in a decade.
In 2023, the city's regional GDP and the added-value of industries above a designated size both ranked first in the autonomous region, while its fixed asset investment ranked second.
To improve its business environment, the city has streamlined its administrative procedures by delegating 158 administrative powers and public service matters from 20 departments to the grassroots level. Through methods such as "certificate-free" processing, the city has reduced document requirements and streamlined processing procedures, cutting the overall processing time by 76 percent.
The approval and filing of construction projects are now 100 percent handled online, including intermediary and public service matters. At the city level, 1,280 governmental services, accounting for 98.46 percent of the total, are now accessible online.
Hohhot has also achieved remote evaluation with 77 cities outside the province, reaching a 100 percent rate for the remote evaluation of government procurement projects through open tendering.
The implementation of projects has attracted significant investment for the city, with 1,125 key projects implemented and an investment of 135.5 billion yuan ($18.83 billion) recorded in 2023, including 430 new investment projects that each exceed 100 million yuan.
In 2023, Hohhot was awarded the title of "China's Investment Hotspot City", highlighting the fact this city has shown significant progress in terms of national business environment.
