Nearly 500 performers from 24 intangible cultural heritage performing groups put on a grand show at Sujiatun Road in Shanghai's Yangpu district to celebrate the Lantern Festival on Saturday.

These teams include the Sanlin Dragon and Lion Dance Troupe, which has won many awards both domestically and internationally; the Fengxian Lantern rolling performance that can date back to 120 years ago; as well as various performing teams from districts, communities and schools.

Guided by the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism and the publicity bureau of the Yangpu district, and supported by the Shanghai Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center, the annual event is now a municipal intangible cultural heritage project rooted in the Siping Road subdistrict, bringing traditional folk culture and food to the citizens.

After holding 19 editions since 2005, the event has now even reached the Yangtze River Delta region, attracting teams from nearby cities and provinces to participate, such as Anhui, Jiangsu, and Zhejiang provinces.

The Siping Road subdistrict has been rewarded as the Shanghai Folk Culture and Art Town for two secretive years.
