Inner Mongolia's ultra-high voltage power grid project begins operation

As of Feb 19, a key energy supply project in Inner Mongolia autonomous region – the 500-kilovolt power transmission project of the SPIC Baiyinhua Power Plant – has seen 24 days of steady operation.

Not only is this the first ultra-high voltage supporting power grid project to be operational in Inner Mongolia in 2024, but it is also the first of the region's scheduled goals to be reached this year.

The project is part of a supporting power grid project for an ±800-kilovolt ultra-high voltage direct current transmission corridor between the Xiliin Gol League and Jiangsu's Taizhou.

The project's power grid line starts from the Baiyinhua Power Plant. They pass through Xi Ujimchin Banner, Xiliinhot city, and end at the ±800-kilovolt Xiliin Gol  League Converter Station.

The main power grid consists of two parallel single-circuit lines, and features a newly built 500-kilovolt line that spans 412.4 kilometers as well as 944 power grid towers.

The project's total investment amounted to 1.22 billion yuan ($167.12 million), and its construction commenced on May 13, 2023.

Annually, the project is expected to deliver 66 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity to East China's Jiangsu province. This capacity is equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 2.3 million households, and effectively ensures that electricity demands in Jiangsu are met.
