"We welcome more renowned scholars from Taiwan to work in Henan province, to promote cross-Strait educational and cultural exchanges, and to build a scientific research platform for emerging industries," said Wong Sankei, a member of the Henan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
Wong, chairman of Zhengzhou Shengda University, said that educational and cultural exchanges serve as vital links to strengthen the emotional relationships between the people on both sides, enhancing their mutual sense of identity.
"We aim to send more students to Taiwan and attract more Taiwan students to Henan to experience the charming culture of the province," he said.
Wong Sankei's grandfather, Wong Kwang-Ya, founded Zhengzhou Shengda University in 1993 after returning home to Henan.
"My grandfather's spirit of loving the motherland influenced my mother and me. He has long been committed to educational and cultural exchanges between the two sides," Wong said.
As the third-generation inheritor of the family, Wong works to promote cross-Strait educational and cultural exchanges. He seeks new modes of communication and said he would like to continue to encourage mutual exchange between the two sides in talent cultivation, scientific research and social services.
