Pingyao to strengthen rural vitalization efforts

Pingyao county in North China's Shanxi province will strengthen the foundation of its rural vitalization work, according to the county government's economic work conference.

The conference outlined plans to integrate, consolidate, and connect funds related to rural affairs, focusing on dilapidated house renovations, rural toilet improvements, and waste and sewage management. The initial phase will prioritize the development of five exemplary villages, namely Liangcun, Xiyuanci, Yuebei, Hengpo, and Zuojiabao villages, alongside the comprehensive governance in 44 key village.

Efforts will be accelerated to complete rural water supply projects for nine townships and 43 villages. These projects will benefit 74,000 residents and ensure 24-hour water supply coverage throughout the county. Additionally, measures will be taken to reinforce the flood control structures of the Nanwang Reservoir and the Wuquwan Reservoir, aiming for completion before beginning of the flood season.

The county plans to plant over 7.33 square kilometers of forests in the Yellow River basin, which will further fortify the ecological barrier.

The county also aims to maintain its grain planting area of over 360 sq km to achieve an annual yield of over 190,000 metric tons. It will construct 7.33 sq km of high-standard farmland, carry out organic farming on 6.67 sq km of land, and plant high-quality seed varieties in 96 percent of its planting area.

The county's targeted annual output for meat, eggs, dairy, vegetables, and fresh and dried fruits is set at over 150,000 tons, 180,000 tons, and 185,000 tons, respectively.

In addition, Pingyao also aims to cultivate 20 new types of agricultural business entities and promote the coordinated efforts of three national-level, 15 provincial-level, and 15 municipal-level leading enterprises. The annual sales of its leading enterprises are expected to exceed 10 billion yuan ($1.39 billion).
