According to a Jan 9 announcement by office of Guiyang leading group for zero waste city, a total of 352 "zero waste cells" were established across Guiyang in 2023.
Of this total, 27 are zero-waste factories, 28 are zero-waste hospitals, 234 are zero-waste government offices, 10 are zero-waste schools, and five are zero-waste scenic areas. The rest of these "cells" are made up of 10 zero-waste villages, 28 zero-waste hotels, 16 zero-waste communities, and 12 zero-waste shopping malls.
"Zero waste cells" refer to various units of social production and living that demonstrate outstanding performances in reducing solid waste, utilizing resources, and safely disposing of waste.
Over the past year, Guiyang promoted waste sorting, energy saving, and a "clean your plate" campaign. With such efforts, Guiyang has cultivated the concept of "zero waste" and promoted the formation of a green and healthy lifestyle and consumption pattern.
Since Guiyang started the "zero waste city" construction in 2022, it has issued the "work plan for the construction of a zero-waste city" and the "implementation plan for the construction of zero waste city during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25)".
Guiyang also signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement for the prevention and control of solid waste pollution with the Solid Waste and Chemicals Management Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment.
The city has set a target of establishing more than 500 "zero waste cells" by 2025. These "cells" will enhance waste reduction and resource utilization, and encourage safe disposal.
