The second session of the 14th Shanxi Provincial People's Congress opened on Jan 23 in Taiyuan, capital of North China's Shanxi province, with 530 deputies attending.

Jin Xiangjun, governor of Shanxi, delivered the provincial government work report that stated the achievements made over 2023, as well as new targets for the province's development in 2024.
In the report, Jin summarized the achievements of Shanxi's socioeconomic development over the last year from six aspects, including economic strength, energy supply, grain production, reform and innovation, the ecological environment, and living standards.

The provincial government's work report set new targets for Shanxi in 2024 in eight aspects. This includes the integration of demand expansion and supply optimization, the upgrading of traditional industries and the expansion of emerging industries, urban construction and rural vitalization, reform and opening-up, green and low-carbon development, and improving the well-being of local residents.
Deputies examined the reports on the overall budget revenue of Shanxi in 2023 and then reviewed the draft budget for 2024. They also discussed how the 2023 national economic and social development plan was implemented by the Shanxi Provincial Government, and went over the 2024 national economic and social development draft plan.
