The Qiantang River Basin conservation and fry stocking event took place in Shangcheng district, Hangzhou on Jan 12, local media outlets reported.
People from all walks of life gathered by the Qiantang River to release fry and safeguard the beautiful mother river.
As part of the initiative, 100,000 fry, including silver carp and spotted silver carp, were released into the river. Going forward, Hangzhou plans to organize fry stocking events annually to protect the biodiversity of the Qiantang River.
Gong Xinwen, a fifth-grade student, also participated in the fry-releasing activity. "Seeing the fish return to the Qiantang River makes me particularly happy. Fish are living beings too and returning to the river is like going back home," she said.
During the event, Shangcheng district, Xihu district, Binjiang district, Xiaoshan district, West Lake Scenic Area, and Qiantang district signed agreements on basin-wide collaboration, with each district committing to promoting the systematic management of the water environment, water resources, and aquatic ecology of the region.
At the event, a proposal titled "Taking from the River, Returning to the River – Protecting Biodiversity" was read aloud, serving as a call to action for biodiversity protection.
Statistics show that Shangcheng district has cumulatively released 2.66 million fry of various species into the Qiantang River.
