Ordos releases livelihood achievement report for 2023

The city of Ordos recently unveiled its 2023 report on livelihood projects, showcasing a series of significant accomplishments.

According to the announcement, in 2023, Ordos completed the construction, renovation, or expansion of 38 primary schools, secondary schools and kindergartens, adding 15,120 new enrollment slots.

The city also built 380,000 square meters of new school buildings and 180,000 sq m of sporting facilities, addressing ongoing issues related to inadequate infrastructure, insufficient functionality, and overcrowded classrooms.

Meanwhile, the city initiated comprehensive health screenings for key demographic groups, establishing a free cancer screening network for permanent residents aged 40-70 and providing complimentary newborn cardiac auscultation, transcutaneous pulse oximetry, and cardiac ultrasound examinations for children aged 6 and under.

In addition, Ordos successfully revitalized 59 old residential communities, installing 148 new elevators, and the implementation of urban affordable housing projects led to the construction of 1,198 subsidized housing units.

In an effort to ensure safe drinking water, the city conducted a comprehensive evaluation of centralized drinking water sources, monitoring the entire process to guarantee compliance with water quality standards and safeguarding residents' access to clean drinking water.

The city's "Sunshine Catering" initiative achieved full-scale intelligent monitoring of all catering service units across the city, providing real-time public access to the entire process of 5,112 networked meal orders and processes.

Ordos also enhanced the functionality of home and community elderly care facilities, solidifying the "15-minute" elderly care service circle based on these facilities and completing age-friendly renovations for 1,291 households with elderly residents experiencing unique challenges.

Moreover, the city completed the reconstruction of 300 kilometers of rural roads and installed charging stations at 15 pairs of service areas along key urban expressways, achieving 100 percent coverage of charging facilities at highway service areas.

Additionally, the central urban area saw the addition of 59 pure electric buses to its public transportation fleet.

In a bid to maintain and expand employment opportunities, Ordos created approximately 33,000 new urban jobs throughout the year, contributing to the city's sustained employment stability and growth.
