Shanxi province completed a fixed asset investment of 70.1 billion yuan ($9.81 billion) in road and waterway infrastructure in 2023.
The focus of this fixed asset investment was on the construction of highways, national and provincial highways, rural roads, and the development of three major tourist highways.
Three major tourist highways have been fully completed, with a total length of 10,732 kilometers. They connect 176 A-rated or above scenic spots and 600 non-A-rated tourist attractions, which link 113 counties (county-level cities, districts), and 4,650 villages across the province. This forms a tourism road network that covers the entire province.
The total length of highways in the province has reached 6,333 km, with 6,186 kilometers in operation. Out of 117 counties, county-level cities, and districts, 115 have access to these highways.
Additionally, 318 bus shelters and 238 electronic signboards were built across 11 cities last year, and three new cross-city bus routes were launched.
