A new year concert, gathering traditional Chinese musicians, was staged at the Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing on Dec 22.

Traditional Chinese musical instruments, such as pipa (a short-necked Chinese lute), guqin (a seven-stringed plucked instrument), and sanxian (a three-stringed plucked instrument), were featured during the concert with musicians performing classic music works.

Artists of Kunqu Opera and Peking Opera also performed excerpts of classic pieces, such as The Peony Pavilion and The Drunken Concubine.

Since 2021, concerts and events have been held by the Forbidden City Concert Hall and Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism. Performances have been staged not only at concert halls but also at iconic scenic spots in Beijing, such as the Great Wall, the Summer Palace and the Temple of Heaven, which aims at showcasing the culture and history of the ancient city as well as displaying the traditional Chinese music.
