From Dec 21 to 22, Tran Thien Canh, director of Vietnam's National Railway Administration, along with a delegation of 10 people, including representatives from the Railway Project Management Committee of Vietnam's Ministry of Transport, visited CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Co in Jilin province.
Prior to this visit, Tran Thien Canh had an official meeting with members of the China National Railway Administration, where they exchanged views on deepening railway cooperation between China and Vietnam.
During the visit, Wang Feng, chairman of CRRC Changchun, introduced the company's profile, strategic plan, and business layout. Wang expressed that CRRC Changchun actively adheres the joint goals issued by China and Vietnam, aiming to promote connectivity and cooperation between the two countries.
Tran Thien Canh emphasized Vietnam's high regard for the development of the railway sector and the formulation of a five-year plan (2026-30) to vigorously develop railways. The plan aims to construct 3,000 kilometers of railways by 2030 in order to improve the living standards of the Vietnamese people. Some 2,000 kilometers of railways has already been completed.
Vietnam is currently focusing on key railway projects such as the North-South high-speed railway and the Lao Cai-Hanoi-Haiphong standard gauge railway.
Regarding the Lao Cai-Hanoi-Haiphong standard gauge railway and the North-South high-speed railway projects, Tran Thien Canh expressed his hope that CRRC Changchun could provide resources and technical information, as well as cooperate with relevant Vietnamese parties to assist in the preparation of feasibility studies.
2023 marks the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Vietnam. Recently, the two countries issued a joint statement highlighting the promotion of cross-border standard gauge railway connectivity between China and Vietnam.
