Areas under the jurisdiction of Taiyuan, capital of Shanxi province, were recently included in the 2023 Report on County-level Development in China, as announced by Competitiveness Think Tank.
Qingxu county was included in the top 100 list of county-level cities with comprehensive competitiveness in Central China for 2023, while Xiaodian, Yingze, Xinghualing, Wanbailin and Jiancaoping were named among the top 100 districts.
The report collected publicly available data from 2022 for each county and district, covering indicators related to their economic strength, technological innovation, green development, well-being of their citizens, and governance. The central region includes the six provinces of Shanxi, Henan, Anhui, Hubei, Jiangxi, and Hunan.
It showed that the average urbanization rate of the permanent population in the top 100 county-level cities in Central China is 56.0 percent; the average GDP is 59 billion yuan ($8.27 billion); the average general public budget revenue is 3.48 billion yuan; and the average green coverage rate in built-up areas is 41.4 percent.
The average urbanization rate of the permanent population in the top 100 districts in Central China stands at 82.5 percent; the average GDP is 75.2 billion yuan; the average general public budget revenue is 3.94 billion yuan; and the average green coverage rate in built-up areas is 42.6 percent.
