During the Fourth Inner Mongolia Organ Transplantation Grassland Forum on Dec 12, the Baotou City Organ Transplant Center announced its establishment at Inner Mongolia Baogang Hospital.

The city has completed construction work on the only organ transplant center in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region with qualifications for liver, kidney, small intestine, and pancreas transplants.

The newly established organ transplant center includes departments for urology and kidney medicine, general surgery, and the Organ Procurement and Distribution Department (OPO).

"We have been continuously engaged in organ transplantation for 40 years, cultivating a relatively mature technical team and management team. We have made numerous achievements, especially in the specialization of Organ Procurement Organization (OPO)," said Liu Zhizhong, director of the Organ Transplant Center at Inner Mongolia Baogang Hospital.

The hospital conducted the first kidney transplant in Inner Mongolia in 1981. In 2004, it performed the first liver transplant in Baotou city, and in 2007, it carried out the first living donor liver transplant in the autonomous region.

In 2012, the hospital performed the first heart-death donation liver transplant in the autonomous region.

Recently, it also completed the first pancreas-kidney combined transplant in Inner Mongolia. The hospital has now completed a total of 709 kidney transplants, 81 liver transplants, and 1 pancreas-kidney combined transplant.

In terms of organ donation, in 2011 the hospital became one of the second batch of "pilot units" for organ donation.

In 2015, it established the OPO, and in 2022, it set up an OPO Department. As of now, the hospital has completed 89 cases of organ donation, acquiring 251 major organs.
