Yinding Bridge, a play by established theater director Lin Zhaohua, is being staged at the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing until Saturday.
With a cast composed of veteran actors, including Ni Dahong and Shi Ke, it tells the story of an ordinary and hardworking man Yu Wu (played by Ni), who runs a restaurant. Yu wants to preserve the family property but becomes ensnared in a swindle, which challenges those around him, including his wife, who is played by Shi.
The play is named after a popular tourist site in Beijing, located among the waterways of Qianhai and Houhai in the Shichahai district. The area's small alleys, courtyards and the beautiful bridges and waterways feature in the play.
First premiered in 2015, the new version includes singer-songwriter Hao Yun and his band.
From Jan 4, Yinding Bridge will embark on a national tour, visiting cities including Wuhan in Hubei province, Changsha in Hunan province, and Yantai in Shandong province.
